In closing, another humourous pony artwork and here's to seeing more of your fantastic skills in spoofing pop culture. A horse-sized you-know-what? ^.^ Don't want to find out, personally. If A.J.'s mugs are huge, would those apples give a guy like this one. As for the apples, with those hazard emblems, it's enough that zap apples were like that, but now there's normal-looking apples, too? This one feels a little nervous about everything at Sweet Apple Acres now. :P One just hopes Applejack wasn't branded with those captions on her huge cider mugs, to say nothing of the amusing reference to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, who needs a ponification, too. On the bright side for Applejack, not only will Sweet Apple Acres have prosperous business, but she'll be less out of the background teasing atmosphere, and foremost in the spotlight. Heaven forbid there's more cloppers fapping to this over more decent Pony fans who are able to laugh at the ridiculous comedy elements that are involved. Once again, it's a mix of comical parody and a touch of the clop that gives this one mixed feelings, but can't hold anything negative against you. Outside, even through the shut window-pane, the world looked cold. While the reader knows that this is a dark night, the sense of sound makes the scene even more realistic. In this excerpt, there is a juxtaposition of two sounds: the bright noise of the horse’s harness bells and the nearly silent sound of wind and snowflake. When most people think of Robert Frost’s famous poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” the final refrain comes to mind: “And miles to go before I sleep.” Yet the short poem contains many imagery examples that are simple yet set the scene well. (“Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost) There are many examples of imagery using the sense of taste, including “a tear would salt her palate,” “oranges and rhubarb,” and “the taste of primary minerals.” The imagery in this excerpt makes the experience of an eating disorder much more vivid and imaginable to the reader. This passage from Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude discusses one of the character’s pica eating disorder. ( One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez) But she persevered, overcome by the growing anxiety, and little by little she was getting back her ancestral appetite, the taste of primary minerals, the unbridled satisfaction of what was the original food. And, in fact, she could not bear the earth in her mouth. The first time she did it almost out of curiosity, sure that the bad taste would be the best cure for the temptation. Those secret tastes, defeated in the past by oranges and rhubarb, broke out into an irrepressible urge when she began to weep. On rainy afternoons, embroidering with a group of friends on the begonia porch, she would lose the thread of the conversation and a tear of nostalgia would salt her palate when she saw the strips of damp earth and the piles of mud that the earthworms had pushed up in the garden. Examples of Imagery in Literature Example #1: Taste Thus, when analyzing literature it is important to consider the imagery used so as to understand both the mood and the symbolism in the piece. In the previous example of MacBeth, the thunder and lightning that open the play symbolize both the storm that is already taking place in Scotland and the one that is about to begin once MacBeth takes over the throne. While an author may use imagery just to help readers understand the fictive world, details of imagery often can be read symbolically. Indeed, even Shakespeare used this type of opening for his famous play MacBeth: the three witches in the beginning speak of the “thunder, lightning rain” and the “fog and filthy air.” This particular imagery also creates a mood of foreboding. One of the key usages is that the imagery in a piece can help create mood, such as the clichéd opening “It was a dark and stormy night.” While this line is too hackneyed for any author to actually use it, it is a good example of imagery in that the reader immediately pictures the kind of setting in which the story may take place. Poets, novelists, and playwrights use imagery for many reasons. Imagery examples are prevalent in all types of literature from cultures around the world. “No, she’s no good, a communist,” he tells me. “Well, hopefully not Frida Kahlo,” he says. Then we are working on a Latina in 2024.” In the fall, we will add the first Asian American woman accepted into the Army. I stand up and take two steps back, putting the chair between us. He glances up at an illustration that highlights our historical women. I hold off a grimace caused by his coffee breath. I turn around, and slowly, into my sights, the face of an older man scrolls down. I am sitting in my booth in South Carolina. "Unfortunately, it also gets the most sarcastic remarks." "Our company banner draws most customers into our booth," the author writes. “Well, we focus on actual women from history,” I say. “Write about Biblical characters,” she says. But listen, I need you to do something for me.” “Now then,” she begins again, “what is your slant?” “Where do you do your research?” she asks. A mom wanders in, picks up a journal, and reads about Kate Warne, the first woman detective. “No, I teach all genders are equal and should be treated as such.” “Well, do you teach that women are better than men?” “I do have one question, though ― do you teach feminism? I mean, I believe in equality, but I am not a feminist, and I don’t want to teach it to my daughter.” I am going to have to buy this for my girl!” she tells me. A few talking points from news sources fall out. Half-words and phrases stumble and tumble around. She doesn’t want anything liberal, progressive, or written by “snowflakes.” But does she know that “woke” is not a bad thing? I understand what she thinks she is asking. I do not think it means what you think it means. In my head, I hear Inigo Montoya from “The Princess Bride”: You keep using that word. The irony is lost on this potential customer. They are all women who fought for equality. The mother says: “But is it woke? I mean, I don’t want to teach my daughter about woke.” I explain our product, how we use historical women to teach girls about their worth and potential. In conclusion, when young girls watch this movie, they will learn that they have to be the damsel in distress they have to wait for prince charming to save them, that they are owned and controlled by men and can’t be the hero of the story. This scene has two stereotypes A.) Guys will always go for a prettier face, rather than stay with a girl that has sacrificed so much for him, and B.) Women are fighting blind when it comes to love they are not thinking of the consequences that may come with it. When we learn why Megara is working for Hades - she sold her soul to save the love of her life, but the love of her life runs away with another girl – Hades still owns Megara. Third, possession also has a noticeable role in this movie. So do all lead women in movies need to have a sexy appearance just to get the lead man to fall for them? In addition, when they go on a date together and Megara is trying to find out Hercules’ weakness, the strap to her dress slips this seduces Hercules and he starts to become uncomfortable and nervous. Such as when she and Hercules first meet after he saved her from the river guardian, she thanks him, and as she walks off her hips sway excessively and Hercules swoons. Then the lead woman’s role, Megara, seems to have a very sultry look and attitude. Her movements were different from the others, as in missing her cues, pronouncing words differently, and when Megara sings “I Won’t Say I’m in Love”, a statue of said Muse is broken and its head is resting on its hand rather than upright and resting on its neck. In regard to physical appearance, one of the Muses in particular, was obese, short, and always one step behind the other skinnier Muses. So in my interpretation of that, I felt that the creators were saying African-American people were more religious than other ethnicities. So I became confused as to whether the creators were focusing on the Greek religion within the movie, or whether they focused on the racial stereotype. Secondly the role of race is just as stereotypical, the Muses are women of color and their songs all sound like gospel music typical of a black church service. This is also shown by Hades, a sick looking and snake like man, is easily defeated because he has no large muscles. When I saw that dramatic change in appearance and definition of heroism, I asked myself: Do all heroes need big muscles to determine their bravery and hero like qualities? Hercules isn’t the only being within the movie with big muscles, Zeus his father, also has big muscles, so power is represented through muscle size in this movie. However, as the movie progresses, he becomes this handsome hero with bulging muscles that for a normal human would take years of body training to obtain, but only took him a few weeks to develop those muscles. In the beginning, Hercules is depicted as a skinny, clumsy, 18 year old who doesn’t know his own strength. However, the movie still gives off the wrong message about race, gender roles, physical appearance, and heroism through false images of men with big muscles and women with seductive attitudes. The stereotypes I found mean nothing to a young child because their maturity level and life experiences don’t allow them to see the hidden message, and they only see the movie as entertainment. However, he falls in love with a mortal woman named Megara, and even though he is a god, he still acts like a bumbling teenager around a pretty face revealing his mortal side. When he turned 18 years old, Hercules learns he is a god and the son of Zeus now all he wants is to be reunited with his father. First of all, Hercules is kidnapped and almost turned mortal by Hades’ minions in order to heighten his chances to take over the world. I watched the Disney movie Hercules and realized there were stereotypes regarding race, gender roles, physical appearance, and heroism. Thesis: Hidden stereotypes in Disney movies teach young children the wrong message about race, women’s roles, physical appearance, and heroism.
